    Medicinal properties of hyssop

    Hyssop officinalisHyssop is used for heart diseases, in particular, for angina. Scientists have proven that this plant has an antistaphylococcal effect. Hyssop also has a positive effect on the nervous system, has a soft balanced antidepressant effect and does not cause drowsiness. It is recommended for use in asthenic conditions, during the recovery period after long illnesses, operations and injuries. Hyssop is considered an effective biostimulant, it improves memory and attention.


    Hyssop has analgesic, wound-healing, stimulating properties. Hyssop decoction is taken for asthma, sore throat, it is also indicated for bronchitis. The decoction helps to solve the problem of excessive sweating.


    Traditional medicine recommends taking hyssop infusion internally for diseases of the respiratory system, as an expectorant and antitussive. Hyssop infusion is used to gargle a sore throat. In case of colds, hyssop infusion can have an antipyretic effect. Hyssop, due to the bitterness it contains, stimulates appetite, has a mild laxative and carminative effect. And in some cases, the plant is used to quickly eliminate withdrawal symptoms in alcoholism. Externally, hyssop is used to speed up the healing of wounds and burns, to resolve hematomas and infiltrates. For skin diseases (dermatitis, eczema, itchy dermatoses), hyssop leaf powders are used. For purulent-inflammatory skin diseases, compresses with hyssop infusion are used. The same compresses are made for milk stagnation in nursing women. Hyssop infusion is used to rinse the mouth for stomatitis, gingivitis, tonsillitis. Hyssop can soften and tone the skin.
